Yes. You can travel with your medication. Keep it in its original labeled container and pack it in your carry-on bag, not checked luggage.
How to pack your medication
For injectable medication:
- Use an insulated travel bag or small cooler with gel ice packs.
- Place a thin towel or barrier between the vial and ice pack. Do not let the medication freeze.
- Pack syringes, alcohol wipes, and a copy of your prescription.
- Bring a portable sharps container. A sturdy plastic bottle with a secure screw-top lid can work temporarily.
For tablets:
- Keep them at room temperature in their original container.
- Protect them from moisture, heat, and direct sunlight.
- Do not refrigerate them.
Always follow the storage instructions on your medication label. See How do I store my medication? for more information.
Airport security
Injectable medication, needles, and vials are allowed in carry-on bags. Keep everything labeled and tell the security officer about these items during screening. Gel ice packs are allowed when frozen solid or declared as medically necessary.
